Description

Sadness is complicated.
I fell in love with this character. She seemed so real.
Loved the concept about her. She is a stereotype turned on its head. she seems very legit and so much like someone in real life. She is complex but not convoluted. She is some of the best character design i have seen in ages.
Her backstory really got to me.

Hello! I'm here from ProjectComment to give you my thoughts on your artwork.

First off; I love the design of the character. I love her bright orange hair that must be terribly vibrant in the sunlight. I love her simple clothing choices that fits well with the character and doesn't take away from the meaning behind the image. I also love her eyes. It can be terribly challenging to not add some extremely obvious form of highlighting to the eyes without making a character look like a zombie, but somehow you managed it with only subtle highlights. Well done!
I also love her quiet, yet powerful position. Even without looking at her face, her entire body-language is withdrawn and sad. I don't know the backstory behind the character, but it's obvious that she's been through a lot and is in serious need of some comfort.
There are a few things that I have a problem with this picture, but only a few things.
One would be the bed. While I understand wanting to generally keep everything within a certain color shade, I would have gone with a different color for the bedspread, mostly because of the lighter green streak you placed on the back of the girl's shirt to keep it from blending it. While this works, it also sort of makes it appear like there is some sort of light source coming from behind the girl, which there really isn't. Also, it appears as though the girl is perched rather precariously near the edge of the bed - which may be intentional to add to the feeling of the picture, but for me just makes me think of hilarious cartoons of characters falling off beds. Which is probably not what you are going for.
The lamp seems to also be placed on the edge of the table rather than in the center. Perhaps it is mostly my own clumsiness and tendencies to knock things that are too close the edge off of things that is setting alarm bells off in my brain, but I definitely find that a bit cringe-y.
Lastly, there is a small orange section of the back of the bed that I cannot tell if it is more of the girl's hair or just part of the bed. And the glowy spot behind the bed could probably be blended more into the background, unless you were specifically going for giving the girl a halo.
All in all, though, I love this picture. It makes me sad just looking at it, and that girl desperately needs a hug. I still love her hair, though. Her lovely, bright orange hair. I especially love how you managed to shade it outside of the reach of the the light source - this is something that I have yet to master. xD

Hope this was helpful (and not potentially frustrating), and I hope that you have a wonderful day!
